Glazing dilemmas

February 28, 2015

I’m usually pretty good at knowing exactly what I want… but when it comes to the glazing for our new ground floor extension I just can’t seem to make my mind up. One minute I’m set on ultra modern, slim framed, sliding doors with that real wow factor. But then I see a picture of a traditional kitchen diner with classic white timber framed french doors and I’m so torn!

Below are some images that I absolutely love. Time to make some decisions.

Slimline pivot doors. Possibly my favourite doors of all time. They open and pivot independently of each other and can be stacked along together to one side. Great if you have a budget 3 times the size of ours! Image by Prue Ruscoe

Industrial steel doors. Beautiful but sadly not right for our house. Image from Studio William Heffner.

Aluminium sliding doors. I love these for the amount of light and the uninterrupted views they bring. Image via

Timber french doors. Just simple, beautiful & timeless. Image by Plain English

We are having exactly the same dilemma at the moment too – such a tricky decision! Our opening isn’t huge so I’m swaying towards french doors with fixed panels. Good luck with your extension!

Thank you Heather, I do love french doors & they will never date. Good luck with your works too.
